We Are His Brothers!

Jesus Christ is not ashamed to have us as his brothers! (Heb. 2:11). What do we have in common with him? By nature we are a disgrace to him, a cause of shame. He perfectly mirrors the image and glory of God; we have spoiled it. He served his Father with joyful obedience; we have rebelled against his will. He loved the Father; we have spurned him. It is inconceivable that we should have anything in common. Yet the writer of Hebrews indicates what Christ did in order to enter into a relationship of fellowship with us of which he would not be ashamed. He took our nature, our humanity, and in it destroyed the powers that have rendered us objects of shame in the sight of the glorious God. He who is holy, and makes us holy by his grace, brings us into his own family. Because he has cleansed and sanctified us, he is not ashamed of us (Heb. 2:10-11). We are his brothers! What a motivation that is to live like the brothers of Jesus Christ and the children of the living God!
